Taufique Harerimana started MEGA GROUP CORPORATION LTD to tackle everyday problems with hygiene, farming, and waste. The company is a small, early-stage startup founded in 2024.

He started the business after seeing two main problems in his community. Many families struggled to find cheap, high-quality soap to keep good hygiene and prevent diseases in homes, schools, hotels, and local associations. At the same time, farmers could not afford natural fertilizers to restore their soil without using expensive chemical fertilizers that harm human health and degrade the land over time.

"We wanted to build simple, local solutions that protect public health and the environment," says Taufique Harerimana, founder and leader of the company. "Our goal is providing quality liquid soap and organic fertilizer that ordinary citizens and farmers can easily afford."

To solve these problems, the enterprise makes liquid soap and Mega Booster Organic Liquid Fertilizer. They make the fertilizer by gathering fruit and vegetable waste, along with animal leftovers like eggs and bones, from local markets, restaurants, and traders. Instead of letting this waste pollute the environment, they collect about 300 kilograms each week, which adds up to 1 to 1.5 tons every month depending on the harvest season. They plan to build structured collection systems and partnership networks with local markets and cooperatives to gather even more raw materials.

Inside the production process, workers carefully sort the organic waste and use scientific composting methods to keep all essential minerals and soil nutrients. This liquid organic fertilizer improves soil fertility, prevents land degradation, and helps soil hold moisture for better crop growth.

As a small, early-stage startup founded in 2024, the business faced hard times at first on both the market side and operationally.

"Winning customer trust for locally made products was not easy because people were used to imported items," Harerimana explains. "We had to run community awareness campaigns, give out free samples, and show people directly how the products work. Starting with very little money also made it hard to buy basic mixing tools, packaging materials, processing equipment, and pay for official quality certifications."

Despite these early struggles, the startup has brought clear changes. It has created jobs for young people and women, helped workers buy land, and taught them practical manufacturing skills. Farmers using the liquid fertilizer report better crop growth and higher yields while spending less money. Families using the liquid soap appreciate its quality and low price. Recycling organic waste also reduces garbage in streets and supports a circular economy.

Looking to the future amid growing climate change challenges, the company wants to produce and distribute more organic fertilizer to help soil survive droughts and heavy rainfall. Their long-term goals include investing in research, expanding sales across Rwanda and regional markets, and training farmers and youth on sustainable resource management to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

To reach these goals, the enterprise needs key support. Their main needs include help with laboratory testing to get official quality certificates, better branding and packaging, and securing a larger building for production and storage. They also need capital to buy modern machinery, strengthen supply chains, expand marketing, and create more jobs.

"We believe that partnerships with government institutions, financial organizations, development partners, and investors will speed up our journey to build an enterprise that produces high-quality goods, protects the environment, and promotes sustainable agriculture," says Harerimana.
