A new group consisting of both African and international organizations has been created with the purpose of helping farmers to become prosperous.
This news was announced in Kigali, Rwanda as the Africa Food Systems Forum that took place on September 7, 2026 came to an end.
According to the press release from AGRA, this agreement is envisaged as making a transition from building isolated elements of agricultural objectives to the coordination of diverse actions towards making farmers prosperous.
The group consists of the following organizations: TradeMark Africa; the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD; the International Chamber of Commerce; the African Seed Trade Association; the International Seed Federation; the Islamic Organization for Food Security; the International Fertilizer Development Center; the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition.
This alliance will be created to address three constraints limiting agricultural transformation: low productivity, weak value creation, and fragmented institutional capability, which was pointed out in the recently published Impact Learning and Foresight Report.
AGRA President Alice Ruhweza said: “The next phase of agricultural transformation must move beyond isolated interventions. Therefore, we are calling for a Renewed Alliance that brings together capabilities across governments, businesses, and researchers that turns decades of agricultural progress into lasting farmer prosperity.”
The partnerships cover seed and input systems, soil health, nutrition, regional trade, private-sector development, policy coordination and institutional capacity.
They aim to strengthen agricultural productivity, help farmers and local enterprises capture greater value, and build the domestic capability needed to sustain progress.
The Renewed Alliance is also intended as a broader platform for organisations working in climate resilience, water, logistics, energy, finance and other enabling sectors to contribute to Africa’s agrifood systems transformation.
Success will be measured by whether productivity gains translate into higher incomes, better jobs, affordable food and resilient institutions that can sustain progress.
